What is Rumsey?
The natural level of Clear Lake has been maintained by the Grigsby Riffle, which is a rock sill located at the confluence of Cache and Seigler Creeks near Lower Lake. The natural low water level of Clear Lake was established as "Zero Rumsey" and all subsequent lake measurements are based on this elevation.

Zero Rumsey is equivalent to 1318.256 feet (1929 NGVD). Being a natural lake, this represents the "rim" of the lake basin but does not indicate a lack of water! During the recent drought in the early 2020s, we continued to sail our keelboats regularly with no problems.

Important
Announcement:

Lake County Invasive Mussel Prevention Program!
Most people are aware of the possibility of an infestation of the lake by the quagga and zebra mussels. The county requires mandatory inspections of all boats entering Clear Lake, and that inspection stickers must be affixed to all boats.
Go to the Lake County website with complete information about the regulations.
You can also call the Lake County Mussel Hotline at (707) 263-2556
